Well, I was going to write one here, but it was DOA, so I guess that's not a good start.
Still, I guess I can comment on the design and packaging etc, which is just great as always from Apple. In fact, it's probably the most appealing that I have seen from them.
As I'm sure you can see, it's fecking tiny!! In hand shot for KD:
In the box you get the unit itself, clipped to the front panel, then a set of "Quick Start" cards which show you the combination of the various flashing lights on the thing. Of course, having no screen to tell you stuff, means that it communicates to you with a morse code of its very own. It's hardly complex though. There's no CD of course, I guess Apple assume you're big and grown up enough to download iTunes by yourself.
The device has two very nicely engineered slidey switches on the top, one for on/off and one for shuffle music/play in order. There is also a little light next to the on/off switch which tells you the status of the iPod.
This light is replicated on the bottom of the unit, so no matter which way up you clip it to yourself you can see what's going on. The headphone jack is down here as well.
The face of the unit has a large easily operated control, more in keeping with a non-iPod music player, no scroll wheels in sight. Clicking up and down buttons for the volume and to skip tracks. The Play/Pause button also lights up to show you what's going on, and I guess will look very nice if I ever get my hands on a working unit.
The clip is very strong, and has no chance of falling off I would reckon. There's two "teeth" which clip together, and it's on the back of one of these teeth you can find the minute serial number - for this is an iPod!
My favourite bit about it though, is that right there, in the tiny box is a little tiny dock!
It looks so cute sat next to even my Nano in its dock. It's sooo diddy!
I guess I'll be able to write up about its sound quality, ease of use, etc. when I get a working one. Until then - I still love it - despite having a Nano and a 20Gb iPod already.
